Respect for Human Rights

Basic Approach

The Group's Sustainable Vision is to “realize zero environmental impact” and “maximize people’s well-being". Sustainable development will not be achieved simply by carrying out activities to solve environmental challenges. People's basic needs must be recognized: health, influence, ability, equity, and meaning and significance. Therefore, the Pillars of Success are “sustainable procurement” and “maximize people’s well-being". We will work throughout our supply chain to respect human rights and strive to realize people's well-being who work for our Group.

Basic Policy

Sustainable development cannot be achieved simply by working to solve environmental challenges. It requires recognition of people's basic needs: health, influence, capacity, equity, and meaning and significance. We recognize that in conducting our business, we are required to respect human rights not only within our group but also in our supply chain. In accordance with the International Bill of Human Rights, the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we will adhere to the following human rights policies and promote initiatives that respect human rights.

Human Rights Policy

Recognizing the importance of respecting the human rights of people affected by our global business activities, the companies in our group, consisting of our company and our subsidiaries (hereinafter collectively referred to as “our group”), have established our human rights policy (hereinafter referred to as “this policy”) based on the concept of “Respect for Human Rights” as set forth in our group's Charter of Ethics Behavior and Human rights Policy (hereinafter referred to as the “Policy”) based on the concept of “Respect for Human Rights” as set forth in the Charter of Corporate Behavior. The Kanadevia Group respects the International Bill of Human Rights and the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of the International Labor Organization (ILO), and promotes initiatives to respect human rights. In addition, as a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, the Kanadevia Group respects the ten principles of the UN Global Compact.

In addition, the Kanadevia Group recognizes that the following human rights initiatives are important elements of respect for human rights.
    • Discrimination and Harassment

Structure and System

Compliance System

The Compliance Committee is chaired by the President and includes the head of each division and business unit, the head of the head office administration division, and an outside attorney as members. Our Legal Department, in cooperation with the compliance departments of each group company, works to prevent human rights issues by ensuring compliance awareness, including harassment and discrimination, and by responding to compliance-related matters.

Sustainability Promotion Committee

The Sustainability Promotion Committee reports to the Board of Directors; it deliberates and decides on policies, strategies, and important measures related to human rights for the entire Group, and receives reports on the implementation status of various measures. For details, please refer to the Sustainable Management Promotion System.

Risk management for business activities

As the Group operates in countries and regions around the world, it is essential to manage risk comprehensively, incorporating changes in social conditions and business models. In the decision-making and risk management process at the time of order receipt, we identify and evaluate risks in technology, estimate, delivery date, contracts, security, human rights, and other areas, incorporate countermeasures, and thoroughly manage risks at the time of order receipt through risk review meetings and other means.
Due diligence is important when entering, expanding, or exiting a new business. In the future, we will introduce a due diligence mechanism for environmental and human rights risks, and establish a system to determine the materiality of risks based on quantitative and qualitative criteria, and to decide whether to promote or not and how to respond to them in deliberations by the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, and in decisions by the Representative Director.

Initiatives

United Nations Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is an international effort to realize “sound globalization” and “sustainable societies” through activities that redefine the common values that the postwar world has agreed upon into 10 principles and disseminate them to internal and external stakeholders.
The ten principles in the four areas (human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption) that UNGC requires compliance with are fundamental to sustainability.

Human Rights Training

The Group conducts annual compliance e-learning based on the Kanadevia Group Charter of Ethical Behavior, which includes respect for human rights and prevention of harassment in the workplace. In addition, human rights training is held annually in conjunction with human rights Week.
