Chemical Substance Management

Basic Approach

The Group's business involves the use of paints based on fossil fuels and molten materials containing special metals and ores such as titanium and chromium. However, there are limits to the materials that can be found buried in the earth's crust. The Group will work to use raw materials more efficiently, switch to renewable alternative raw materials, and switch to metals and ores that are commonplace in nature or substances that are readily absorbed by nature.

Paints and solvents used by the Group in its business activities contain persistent and naturally foreign substances such as xylene and ethylbenzene. However, persistent substances accumulate in nature after discharge and have negative impacts on the natural environment. The Kanadevia Group is committed to the efficient use of raw materials, management of chemical substance emissions in accordance with the laws and regulations of each country, and expansion of the use of sustainable materials involving the value chain.

Please refer to Environmental Management for the structure and systems related to chemical substance management.

Indicators and Targets

Chemical Substance Management Targets FY2050 Environmental pollutant material change 100% Compliance with emission and wastewater standards (add-on standards) at domestic manufacturing sites

Track Records

Initiatives

The key of chemical substance emissions reduction is to reduce defective products and defects and improve work efficiency. For example, we are promoting defect prevention and standardized work through thorough prior review, preventing spillage and scattering by inspecting and maintaining painting facilities, thoroughly inspecting and cleaning dust collection equipment, and studying the optimization of painting and welding locations. In addition, as part of daily management, we monitor the amount of chemicals handled and emitted in accordance with the PRTR System*, maintain, inspect, and check facilities through patrols, and conduct education and training for workers who handle chemical substances.

Zero Environmental Pollutants

We promote the change from raw materials containing substances subject to the Special Chemical Substances Control Law and the PRTR System to raw materials using environmentally friendly substances.
Although we have set voluntary standards stricter than laws and regulations to control wastewater and exhaust gas, there was one report of violation of environment-related laws and regulations in FY2023. We promptly analyzed and identified the cause, took emergency and permanent measures, and submitted an improvement report.

2030
  • Reduction of 30% of chemical substances subject to the PRTR System
2040
  • Reduction of 70% of chemical substances subject to the PRTR System
2050
  • Reduction of 100% of chemical substances subject to the PRTR System
Status in 2023
  • Grasping the amount handled and emitted in accordance with the PRTR System, maintenance, inspection, and confirmation of facilities through patrols, and promotion of usage efficiency
